Has summer gone?

Today has been a fall like day, very little sunshine, and a lot cooler.

As an incentive for all you knitters I am offering 10% off all yarn during the month of September

The shop will be closed September 18 – 26, as we are going on vacation to Clearwater, Florida, with Tim & Maureen, the grandkids and Maureen’s brother and fiance.

Should be fun, we will be right on the beach, with a big balcony for me to sit and knit

I will be on the top floor with my yarn and needles

We are not much of beach bums, but there is lot to do in Tampa, Tarpon Springs and Ybor City, or at least try new cuisines.

Meanwhile, no arrest has been made from the burglary, and I really don’t think there will be.

I hope to have the glass replaced in the door this week, the piece of plywood is just not my style.

I just recieved a load of Worsted Encore and Galway from Plymouth Yarn, all good stuff for making Christmas Stockings, Afghans, Hats, Scarves

Tomorrow I will get the rest of my Berocco Order in, can’t wait, as I forgot what I ordered, I do remember some more Vintage, how I love to knit in that yarn.

I used some in the KAL Shawl, which we now have 6 girls knitting in all different colors, can’t wait to them all finished. I am on my second one. My third, will be done in Twisted Sisters Cotton Slubbed Daktari, this will be the ” Beach Project”, and…. I forgot, the long drive down there, Oh, goody, lots of knitting time on this trip.

But at the moment here at home I knitting a bag out of the new Debblie Bliss Magazine, Fair Isle, Scandinavian design, I am making it in Encore Worsted Tweed, the new red color is fantastic.

Duffel Bag by Debbie Bliss in progress

There is a lot of Fair Isle designs in this Magazine, as well as other great ideas, for children and adults alike, come in and grab a copy before they are all gone.

New Vogue Knitting is very good this season and Interweave Knits is also worth looking at.

Hope you are all getting in the knitting mood after this long hot summer!

Thief takes knitting goods only

Mark Millican markmillican@daltoncitizen.com

Dalton Police are still trying to unravel what was going through the mind of a thief who took only selected knitting items from the Krazy Knitz shop on West Emery Street last week. Although they have no leads, they’re hoping to sew up the case soon.

“It’s a mystery, and will probably stay a mystery,” said owner Ester Dabrowa. “It was the weirdest thing — everybody’s baffled.”

The thief took three knitted hats, one knitted sweater, at least 10 pairs of decorative knitting needles, two wicker baskets that customers use while shopping, a plastic molded sheep and a clothesline holding baby sweaters and one adult sweater, according to a police report. Left behind was computer equipment worth much more than the knitted items.

“It looked like she knew exactly what she was doing,” said Dabrowa. “I keep calling it a ‘she,’ there’s not many men coming in here. She took a pottery sheep thing that I had dressed up in a knitted hat and scarf and a skirt. They took that but it fell and one of its ears broke off, so now they’ve got a broken pottery sheep.”

Dabrowa said the day before a woman came in who acted strangely.

“There was this lady and she just walked ‘round and she wanted to know if I had a Spanish-reading knitting book,” said Dabrowa, who is from Denmark but picked up a British accent from living in England for many years. “I said, ‘No, I don’t, but you speak good English.’ She said, ‘But I don’t read any (and) can you get me a Spanish book?’ And I said, ‘Well, I don’t know where to get it from.’ And she walked off and then a bit later I ‘cashed out’ a couple of customers and she just stood at the counter then sort of walked out.”

Dabrowa’s husband, Paul, was working in the rear of the store when the woman stopped short of entering that area.

“I was doing some work on the computer, and it was like she didn’t want to come back there when she saw me,” he said. “But if it was her, she knew exactly where she was going and what she wanted in the store that night.”

Police spokesman Bruce Frazier said detectives had no leads but had processed the crime scene that night with Ester Dabrowa’s help in identifying missing items.

After passing through a mini-English garden at the front of the store, the thief or thieves kicked in the front door that was partially glass. A piece of plywood served as the entrance on Monday, with a sign that said, “Open to Customers, Closed to Burglars.”

Around $200 worth of goods were taken, according to the report.

Yes, this happened last week,

So if you see any of the items you might have seen in my shop, call me, so I can determine if they were stolen.

Here are a few items missing

Noro Top

Fair Isle Beret and earflap hat

Baby Cardi in multicolor lace

This hat I designed myself in Baby Alpaca Grande

My pottery sheep fully dressed, but now missing one ear as the thief dropped her, poor thing!

July News

Had a great time on Lake Lanier with our youngest son and his family

Bradon climbing on board and Molly in the Lake

I did also get a lot of knitting done over the weekend, I found a skein of Art Yarns Rhapsody Silk in a bag and home, and am making a simple shawl with it.

Art Yarn

And when the World Cup Soccer is on, I have been knitting a crocodile with Encore Worsted by Plymouth, the pattern is from the book “Sock Yarn Balloon Tying Creations” You knit a tube with simple increases and decreases, then tie it into an animal, just like baloon animals.

Crocodile nearly finished

I just received my first order from The Alpaca Yarn Company, it is a sock yarn 20% Superfine Alpaca 65% Superwash wool 10% Nylon, It is PACA PEDS HT, each skein has a 25gr solid color skein attached for heel and toes, check it out on line http://www.thealpacayarnco.com/PedsHT.htm

Sorry,  that some of the photo are a bit dark, I don’t know what happened. I also got 3 more skeins of Chakra from Mango Moon

Cherry Tree Hill Sock Yarn 50% off

50% off

To make room for new line of Sock Yarn, I am offering Cherry Tree Hill Sock yarn at 50% off.

Sock yarn is great for children’s garments, toys, shawls, hats, mittens and scarves, and the colors are so great.

On the porch I have books and patterns at great prices, and the yarn out there is 40% off.

I know it is really too hot to think about knitting, but it won’t be long before you need to start those Christmas Presents.

Hope you all have a great weekend and look after your Dad, Son or Husband this Father’s Day.

I am cooking for Paul, my son, Tim (the Chef) and his father-in-law Gene, on Sunday, and it will be something different, Oxtail Stew……We just love it, but just in case some of the other family members turn their noses up, I will also have some veal/beef stew.

I just love stews in the summer, we will have creamed potatos and a chopped salad too.

For dessert I hope to have Bradon (6) and Molly (4) help me make Brownies, to be served with Ice Cream and Hot Fudge.

Knitting wise…..I am knitting a crocodile, a vest and a cowl, while watching World Cup Soccer.

I am looking for Knitting or crochet Instructors, you can set your own hours, fees and projects, come and talk to me.

I also need occasional help in the the shop, while I go on vacation In September or if I need a day off, if interested come and see me
