| MY KNITTING EXPERIENCE SO FAR I learnt to knit at school in my native country, Denmark, when I was 9 years old. The first thing we made was a washcloth, followed by a pair of mittens, I still remember the dark green wool I chose for mine. The next year I made matching socks, then another pair of socks in grey with red stripes....it was always cold and snowing in the winter when I grew up, so that must have been the reason for 2 pair of socks in one year. Then I got a sweater kit for my birthday when I was 11, it was blue wool, with fair isle yoke done in white, black, green and red. That was my last big project for a while, as the Barbie Dolls hit the market, I then knitted lots of clothes for my Barbie. Then as a teenager I hung up my needles....it was not cool anymore to be seen knitting. It was not until I got married at 19, moved to England, and pregnant at 20, I started knitting baby clothes all the time, by the time our first son, Michael was born, he had numerous knitted outfits...Thank god, it was a boy, because I had only knitted boy clothes, mainly in blue. Then again when our second son, Timothy was born, the needles were clicking again. Paul, my husband brought home 80%wool 20%nylon carpet yarn on spools, and I knitted huge fair isle ponchos and fluffy jackets, which were sold at an arts and crafts store in Durham City, England. |
